Tracking (recording)
If you live in the area of Halifax, NS, you can come record in the studio! I offer complete services including tracking, overdubs, edits, mixing and mastering. The studio is equipped with 16 input channels (Antelope Discrete 8 and ART Tube Opto Expansion) but can be expanded to 24 for larger sessions. The Headphone capacity is theoretically 16 outputs with 4 different mixes. The biggest band that has recorded live off the floor was a 6 piece but the bass player was also the engineer (me). There is a small vocal booth with partial isolation, a moveable heavy sound barrier and the ability to put an amp in another room downstairs.
Mixing
Whether you record with me in ***THE BULL CAVE*** or somewhere else, I'd love to help you take your record from a bunch of raw tracks to a cohesive, exciting unit that grabs your audience and pulls them into your world.
Mastering
Most of the mastering work I end up doing is related to projects that I've recorded or mixed or both. That being said, if you are a self-produced indie artist and you want someone to put the final shine on the song/record you have spent so much time crafting I may be able to help! Having been in that position a few years ago, I know how frustrating it can be to send away tracks to be mixed and the engineer goes in a totally different direction than you intended. So you want to do it yourself but then it doesn't end up sounding finished and competitive. I can help you take your carefully crafted mix and make it stand up against the crowd without removing your fingerprint from the sound.
Editing/Tuning
Sometimes, we don't get it perfect in the room. Obviously, it's best if we can sing perfectly in tune and play with perfect rhythmic accuracy and time, but sometimes the energy and emotion of a take is more important. And even though that energy is the number one factor in a good recording, sometimes there's a little cleanup to do. If you don't have the software, skill, patience or willingness to do this work I might be able to help out!
Bass Tracking
My background in the studio and music in general, is as a bass player. I went to jazz school in Nova Scotia and New York City before settling in Toronto for about 7 years where I explored many types of music and started working as a session player and touring musician. I now offer remote and in person bass tracking for a variety of projects.
